One case of the delta variant of Covid-19 has plunged the whole of New Zealand into complete lockdown.

For three days anyway.

As the rest of the world has struggled to bring covid under control, we have lived without restrictions, such as packed crowds at sports and concerts.

We’ve been fortunate. As the world returns to some normality, here’s what it is like to go back into lockdown for the first time in almost 15 months.

As we speak, the authorities have identified another seven cases, all linked to the positive case the previous day.

A brief history of Covid in New Zealand

New Zealand’s first case of Coronavirus came on 28 February 2020.

The number of cases grew steadily through March 2020, reaching 647 cases by the end of the month. March 29 saw New Zealand’s first coronavirus-related death.
