When we think of losing a best friend, a childhood friend, our partner, or perhaps a parent is probably what first comes to mind.

Perhaps, losing a dog.

Man’s best friend, right?

But how about a cat? Can a cat be a human’s best friend without being labelled a “crazy cat person”?

I lost my cat last year, and it really did feel like I lost my best friend.

I started penning this article soon after it happened, but I couldn’t get very far into it. It has been sitting in my drafts for about eight months.

Then, I saw today was Medium Draft Day 2025, where we’re encouraged to finish old articles from our drafts. So, I figured this was as good a time as any to finish this article.
