Agreed, moderation is absolutely key.

You're right, nutrient-dense foods are essential.

I preach a lot about sugar being a good thing in some contexts, such as naturally occurring in nutrient-dense fruit and vegetables.

Which are all largely low calorie.

So, a diet abundant in fruit and vegetables, some meat, and a tiny amount of nuts or legumes, will be abundant in nutrients!
